Bupa-Covered Osteopathy for Lower Back Pain

Midtown Wellness Osteopaths in Covent Garden: About Osteopathy

If you're dealing with lower back pain that isn’t improving, osteopathy may help. At Midtown Wellness, our osteopaths are covered by Bupa UK and Bupa Global health insurance, ensuring you can access high-quality care with peace of mind. Osteopaths use hands-on techniques to release tension, improve movement, and restore balance in your body. This approach can relieve short-term or chronic pain, including sciatica, which radiates from your back to your legs.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

  • Assessment: Your first session (45–60 minutes) includes discussing your pain, overall health, and any ongoing treatments. The osteopath will examine your posture, movement, and soft tissues.

  • Consent: Before treatment, your osteopath will explain their findings, recommended techniques, benefits, risks, and costs. Feel free to ask questions before giving consent.

  • Treatment: Techniques may include:

    • Soft tissue work to relieve tension.

    • Joint articulation to restore mobility.

    • Stretching for stiffness relief.

    • Manipulation with controlled thrusts (sometimes resulting in a “pop”).

Other techniques, such as muscle energy, functional methods, dry needling, medical acupuncture, tecar therapy, shockwave, counterstrain, or still techniques, might also be used.

Benefits of Osteopathy

Osteopathy can relieve pain, improve mobility, and help you stay active. Your osteopath may also advise on posture and exercises to support your recovery and prevent recurrence.

Aftercare and Recovery

It’s common to feel mild soreness after treatment, which should resolve in a day or two. Follow your osteopath’s advice on exercise and posture to ensure the best results.

Is Osteopathy or Physiotherapy Better for Lower Back Pain?

Osteopathy and physiotherapy are both effective treatments for lower back pain, but each takes a different approach. Physiotherapists focus on active rehabilitation, encouraging you to participate in your recovery, while osteopaths emphasize hands-on manual therapy, though they also recommend exercises.
