Professional Aftercare to Support Your Recovery
Surgery is only one part of the process. Recovery and aftercare can play an important role in how your body responds in the weeks that follow. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialised, gentle technique designed to support the body’s natural lymphatic function during post-operative healing.
When Can Treatment Begin?
MLD is typically introduced within 7–14 days after surgery, subject to approval from your surgeon.
The early post-operative period is when swelling and fluid retention are commonly experienced. During this stage, some individuals may be advised to attend sessions two to three times per week. Frequency is adjusted according to:
The type of procedure performed
Your surgeon’s guidance
Your individual healing response
As recovery progresses, sessions are usually spaced further apart.
All treatment plans are tailored on an individual basis.
What Manual Lymphatic Drainage Involves
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is not a conventional massage. It consists of light, rhythmical, and precisely directed movements intended to stimulate lymphatic flow.
When delivered appropriately and at the correct stage of recovery, MLD may help to:
Support the body’s management of post-surgical swelling
Encourage movement of excess interstitial fluid
Assist with softening areas of firmness associated with healing
Promote comfort during the recovery period
Individual outcomes vary. Results depend on multiple factors including surgical technique, overall health, adherence to post-operative instructions, and natural healing variation.
The Role of Structured Aftercare
Post-operative recovery experiences differ between individuals. Professional aftercare may contribute to:
Improved comfort
Gradual reduction in visible swelling over time
Support for more even tissue healing
MLD does not replace medical care, does not guarantee specific aesthetic outcomes, and is not a substitute for surgical follow-up.
Any concerns regarding complications should be directed to your surgeon.
Our Post-Operative Treatment Packages
To support continuity of care during early recovery, we offer structured packages of:
10 × 90-minute post-operative sessions
These extended appointments allow adequate time to:
Address multiple treatment areas where appropriate
Monitor changes in tissue response
Adapt treatment progressively as swelling evolves
Sessions are available:
In-clinic
Via home visit (subject to location, suitability, and availability)
A consultation is carried out prior to treatment to confirm suitability. Medical clearance from your surgeon is required before commencing therapy.
What You May Experience
Some clients report:
A temporary feeling of lightness following treatment
Gradual softening of tissue texture
Increased comfort in compression garments
A perceived improvement in swelling over time
Experiences vary and no specific results can be guaranteed.
